The Most Critical Breast Cancer Questions

10 Questions to Ask Your Oncologist When Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Welcome back to Twins4wellness! When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I had a ton of questions, so I thought we should create a list of questions for you to ask your doctor. These questions will help you be able to get answers fast and hopefully understand your diagnosis and treatment plan better.

  1. What stage is my breast cancer?
  2. What kind of breast cancer is it?
  3. What does it mean to be hormone positive or hormone negative? Am I HER2 positive or negative?
  4. Is my tumor aggressive?
  5. What are the treatment options available to me?
  6. What are the benefits and risks of each treatment?
  7. What are the common side effects of treatment?
  8. Can I work during treatment?
  9. What are the long-term survival rates of my type of cancer?
  10. Is there any diet or lifestyle change I should consider switching to?

I suggest bringing a small notebook and a pen to all of your appointments. In the beginning, every appointment is overwhelming. My family and I had so many questions and I was so overwhelmed that I would write my questions down before arriving at the appointment so I did not forget them. My doctors and nurses were great about answering my questions and making me feel comfortable. I hope you have the same luck with a great medical team, but if you don’t hopefully you can find the answers to some of your questions on our blog.

I came up with the most important breast cancer questions after being diagnosed with breast cancer in Dec 2022.

Let us know in the comments what other questions you think are important to ask your doctor!
